Lake George Mid September- NYS Record Pickerel
I had a couple I took to Lake George to drop shot fish. The change in weather made the bite a little harder than normal but we caught quite a few smallmouth and largemouth bass in the 25 to 30 feet range. The highlight was the wife of the couple hooked and had a pickeral that was in the nine pound range. It was an unbelievable pickeral. It lept along side the boat then came to a rest along side, her husband could not get his hand to spand the width of the fish and then grabbed the line to lift out of the water, then “bink” the line snapped! This was clearly a lost NYS record. I have 7.5 lb Pickeral mounted, and my mount was a dwarf compared to the pickeral that was lost. The lost pickeral had a very bulging belly, very broad and long. At first I thought it was a pike but quickly realized it was a Pickeral. I think she is starting to talk to her husband again..
