In May I went up to the St Lawrence and St Regis on the Mohawk Reservation. We caught over 40 pike on rattle bugs (chatterbaits). We fished feeder creeks and feeder bays off the main river. Swim baits also produced in shad color. Largemouth Bass were mixed in with the Pike, holding tighter to cover-cover being reeds and Tules. Pike were out away from the bank in reeds and scatter milfoil-cruising the creek channels.
Smallmouth bass were plentiful in the moving water of the St Regis River. Smallies were hitting nearly anything you threw at them. Buzz baits and top water baits provide some exciting action. Pink stick works, bitsy bugs and brush hogs produced quite well. Fish were moving from spawn to post spawn. A few fish were still on beds, but the majority had all ready spawned out.
