The lake was surprisingly busy over the weekend with bass fisherman, looked like a small club tournament was going on. I noticed that everyone was bank fishing. I spent the two days fishing deeper. I found plenty of good size largemouths in 9 to 12 feet of water on drops and around large weed clumps. Large northern pike were also mixed with the bass. I had fished jig and pigs, and stick worms. Majority of the better fish came on Jigs, smaller fish on the stick worms. Best 5 fish on Saturday was 17 lbs, Sunday easy 15lbs, all same size fish, no huge lunkers in either bag. Pike were aggressive, the best 5 pike ranged from 10 to 12 lbs over the weekend. Total fish for the 2 days was 38 bass, 12 northern pike. Lake conditions may come to a change soon as the lake is being treated for milfoil; Hortonia will be closed on June 21st for the application. Just for the record- I am 100% against such treatment on this lake.

Went out in heavy rain on Sunday witha young lady ( 13yrs old) to have her catch some pike and bass. She fished hard with a chrome and black rattle trap. Fishing from 6 to 14 feet, she caught 10 pike and 8 Largemouth bass. Larger pike was 6 lbs, largest bass was 3lbs. Despite the cold front a very successful day in the rain. By the end of the day there was no more chrome left on the rattletrap!!

Lake Hortonia Report
Late October; plenty of rain brought the lake level up by 3 inches and dropped the water temp by 3 degrees; thus the bite slowed downed, the bass and pike were suspended in the water column along the deeper edges.
Deep diving crankbaits fished slowly produced, the bite was soft but noticeable. Bottom baits were not producing nor were spinner baits.

October on Lake Hortonia
The pike have started to move into the 10 foot range and are hitting jigs and creature baits. Crank baits that run 8 feet are producing on the outside edge of the weedbeds.
Largemouth bass are looking very plump from feeding on bait fish. Jig and pig & creature baits fished between and around weed clumps have been producing. Crank baits- shad color has been producing in 12 to 15 feet.
